32 FOCUS - AUGUST 2015 Letters to the editor continued Mailbox continued from page 1 Co-ownership a great alternative Dear Editor Lynn Campbells article about shared home ownership was excellent. I have been a long-time advocate of such arrangements. I enquired about the house at 100 Perry St. and several additional questions were answered There is only one kitchen and people will live as a self-directed family group. Grocery costs will be shared which should lead to additional savings versus living alone. Prospective buyers will have input into the legal agreement. The value of your investment will continue to grow as property values increase leaving a nest egg for you or your heirs when you move on. Monthly contributions by each owner should be less than 800 a month and will include taxes insurance all utilities TVhouse phone and interneta cleaning service twice a week and all outside services no shovelling. Starting out owners will also contribute to a contingency fund that can be used in the longer term for major items like roof replacements. That information parallels my own situation in a co-ownership home. Compared to living alone my portion of the living expenses is a fraction of my former costs I save money for travel and for my future needs and I do not have all of my assets tied up in a house. I was even able to give my family some money from my house sale and still had money to buy my share and invest for my future. So I am sold on the model and wish the new co- owners all the best. Martha Casson Port Perry Bridge Club looking for members Dear Editor Scugog Marathon Hospital Bridge Club was formed in October 1983. The club was organized to raise money for the Port Perry Hospital as well as enjoy some games of bridge with friends. The group started with 20 people growing to 40 members over time. This past year our membership numbers have dropped and consequently our donation to the hospital has decreased as well. We play a set number of games and donate a small amount of money each time we play. We are anxious to keep the Bridge Club going so we are actively looking for new members. If you enjoy playing bridge and are interested in helping support the Port Perry Hospital please call Gale Ballard at 905-985-7054 or Catherine Corden at 905-985-9412.
