FOCUS - JULY 2015 9 Think TVs Golden Girls And Guys Thats the concept behind the exciting shared housing opportunity coming to Port Perry. John Lucyk enthusiastically shows off the architectural plans for the expansion of this classic revival-style residence. There will be five spacious and private bedroom sitting areas 12 x 22 with ensuite bathrooms and walk-in closets. An elevator will be installed in the two -storey building. Laundry facilities will be provided on each floor. A grand kitchen will be available to share. The finished basement will contain a TVpartyhobby room a guest room and a caregiver suite. There will be a beautiful dining room a Georgian room a back deck parking and a new entrance. An interior designer will be used to style the common areas. The occupants of the house will share expenses such as a cleaning lady lawn care and utilities. Shared housing is perfect for seniors for safety and companionship John pointed out. They can form their own little family. Two local ladies are already on board. The three other units available would be suitable for singles or perhaps a couple. Any ages are welcome. Newlyweds just starting out may see the positive side of joining in as an alternative to a traditional starter home. One of the house rules is that existing residents must approve their new housemates to ensure compatibility. Golden Girl Louise Bardswich is looking forward to moving into 100 Perry St. Recently she sold her modest home in Port Perry and shes temporarily staying with her daughter. Louise pointed out that the monthly rental cost of traditional seniors accommodations can be daunting. You can outlive your money. Once she buys the new place Louise figures shell have a nice nest egg in the bank. Buying a house together is so cost effective Louise said. Golden Girl Beverly Brown says that the shared ownership housing option will ensure that she has adequate funds to enjoy travelling. Ill also be able to walk to church and the stores and the lake she added noting the convenience of the downtown Port Perry location. Bev pointed out that she wont have to worry about stairs which most apartments have or being alone if she falls. Louise and Bev who met at the local curling club a few years ago agree that living together will be the best of both worlds with companionship when you want it and privacy when you want that too. Retired from her career as a nurse at Port Perry Hospital Bev says that the best years of her life were when she was in residency with other students. She looks forward to the same social atmosphere at her new shared house.
